Community Guidelines
Version 1.0.0 · Updated at August 31, 2026 · Effective from August 31, 2026
Niche Music is built around discovering music, sharing what you like, and connecting with other people.
We want people to be able to express themselves freely, joke around, debate things, criticize music, make art, and talk about difficult topics. But that freedom doesn't extend to seriously harming other people, exploiting them, scamming them, or making Niche unsafe to use.
These Community Guidelines explain what is and isn't allowed on Niche Music.
They apply to content and activity across Niche, including:
- Posts
- Comments
- Messages
- Profiles
- Usernames
- Images and videos
- Music and audio
- Playlists
- Group activity
- Links
- Artist content
- Other user-generated content
Context matters for some rules. Content that would normally be restricted may sometimes be allowed when it has clear artistic, educational, documentary, newsworthy, medical, historical, protest, or awareness value.
Other rules, particularly those involving child sexual exploitation, have no such exception.
1. Be a Normal Person
At the most basic level, don't use Niche to deliberately make other people's experience miserable.
Disagreement is fine. Criticism is fine. Not liking someone's music is fine.
Targeted abuse isn't.
We don't allow behavior such as:
- Repeatedly targeting someone with abusive messages
- Coordinating harassment against another person
- Encouraging others to attack or harass someone
- Threatening someone
- Sexually harassing someone
- Mocking someone repeatedly with the purpose of humiliating them
- Deliberately using someone's trauma, medical information, or private experiences to attack them
- Creating accounts primarily to harass someone
- Continuing targeted contact after someone has clearly asked you to stop
The severity, frequency, context, and power differences between the people involved may affect how we handle a situation.
Safety
2. Threats and Violence
Do not use Niche to threaten, encourage, organize, or celebrate serious violence against another person or group.
We don't allow:
- Credible threats of physical harm
- Calls for someone to be killed or seriously injured
- Offering money or rewards for violence
- Coordinating violent attacks
- Instructions intended to help carry out violent crimes
- Celebrating a specific person's serious injury or death in a way that encourages further violence
General fictional violence, lyrics, dark humor, historical discussion, or non-credible expressions may be allowed depending on context.
If we believe someone faces an immediate and credible threat, we may take additional action, including contacting appropriate authorities where necessary.
3. Graphic and Violent Content
Some discussion of violence is allowed on Niche, particularly when it has legitimate artistic, documentary, educational, journalistic, historical, or awareness value.
However, we may remove or restrict content showing extremely graphic injury, death, torture, mutilation, or similar material when it:
- Is posted primarily to shock or disgust people
- Glorifies real-world suffering
- Celebrates serious violence
- Targets or humiliates a victim
- Is shared without appropriate context
- Creates a substantial safety risk
Less graphic violent content may be age-restricted, hidden behind warnings, made less discoverable, or otherwise limited rather than removed.
Fictional violence in music, artwork, games, films, animation, or other creative work is generally treated differently from real-world graphic violence.
4. Suicide and Self-Injury
People should be able to talk honestly about suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, addiction, and other difficult experiences.
We allow supportive conversations, personal recovery stories, awareness content, artistic expression, and people seeking help.
We do not allow content that:
- Encourages suicide or self-harm
- Celebrates someone harming themselves
- Pressures another person to hurt themselves
- Gives detailed instructions intended to help someone carry out suicide or serious self-injury
- Promotes harmful challenges involving self-injury
- Deliberately targets vulnerable people with pro-self-harm material
Some sensitive content discussing or depicting self-harm may be restricted even when it is not removed.
Where appropriate, Niche may provide users with information about support resources.
Protecting Minors
5. Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
Child sexual abuse material and sexual exploitation of minors are never allowed on Niche Music.
There is no artistic, humorous, protest, documentary, or other exception that permits child sexual abuse material.
This includes:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
- Sexual images or videos involving minors
- Sexualized depictions of minors
- Content exploiting or encouraging the sexual exploitation of a child
- Soliciting sexual images from a minor
- Grooming or sexual predatory behavior involving minors
- Offering, requesting, trading, buying, selling, or linking to CSAM
- Threatening to distribute sexual imagery involving a minor
- Sexual extortion involving minors
- Attempts to normalize or facilitate sexual relationships between adults and children
This applies to real content and, where appropriate, realistic synthetic or manipulated material depicting child sexual exploitation.
We may immediately remove this content, permanently disable involved accounts, preserve relevant information where legally required, and report apparent child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) or appropriate law enforcement agencies.
Do not upload, repost, or send CSAM to Niche even for the purpose of reporting it. Use Niche's reporting tools or contact us instead.
6. Sexualization and Exploitation of Minors
Content does not have to meet the legal definition of CSAM to violate our rules protecting minors.
We may remove content that sexualizes, exploits, fetishizes, or inappropriately targets minors.
We also prohibit adults from using Niche to pursue inappropriate sexual relationships with minors.
Hate, Harassment, and Abuse
7. Hate Speech and Hateful Conduct
Niche does not allow attacks against people based on protected characteristics.
Protected characteristics include things such as:
- Race
- Ethnicity
- National origin
- Religion
- Sex
- Gender
- Gender identity
- Sexual orientation
- Disability
- Serious medical condition
We don't allow content that:
- Calls protected groups inferior or subhuman
- Uses dehumanizing comparisons to attack a protected group
- Advocates violence against a protected group
- Calls for exclusion or segregation based on hatred of a protected characteristic
- Celebrates violence against people because of a protected characteristic
- Uses hateful slurs to directly attack or degrade people
Context matters.
Content may sometimes include otherwise prohibited language when it is clearly being:
- Quoted to condemn it
- Discussed academically
- Reported as news
- Reclaimed by members of the targeted group
- Used in artistic or historical context
- Shown for awareness or criticism
That does not mean adding "it's a joke" automatically makes hateful conduct acceptable.
8. Bullying and Cyberbullying
We don't allow severe or repeated behavior intended to intimidate, humiliate, or degrade another person.
This includes:
- Coordinated bullying campaigns
- Encouraging mass harassment
- Posting degrading content specifically to humiliate someone
- Repeated unwanted sexual comments
- Encouraging someone to harm themselves
- Exploiting a person's death or serious trauma to target them
- Creating humiliating edited media of a private individual
- Repeatedly targeting someone across multiple accounts after enforcement
We generally give more room for criticism of public figures, companies, artists, and public-facing organizations than for attacks on private individuals.
You can say an artist's album sucks.
That does not give you permission to stalk, threaten, dox, or relentlessly harass the artist.
9. Privacy and Personal Information
Do not use Niche to expose sensitive personal information about another person without permission.
This may include:
- Home addresses
- Personal phone numbers
- Private email addresses
- Passwords or login credentials
- Government identification numbers
- Financial account information
- Precise private location information
- Private medical records
- Other information that could reasonably put someone at risk
Sharing information that is already genuinely public may still violate these Guidelines when it is being used to facilitate harassment, stalking, intimidation, or violence.
10. Non-Consensual Intimate Content
Do not share intimate or sexual images of another person without their consent.
We prohibit:
- Revenge pornography
- Secretly recorded sexual content
- Threats to publish someone's intimate images
- Sexual extortion
- Intimate deepfakes or manipulated sexual images created to depict an identifiable real person without consent
This content may result in immediate account action.
Sexual Content and Nudity
11. Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity
Niche is not a pornography platform.
We generally do not allow:
- Explicit sexual activity
- Pornographic content
- Fetish content primarily intended for sexual gratification
- Explicit display of genitals
- Explicit sexual solicitation
- Content advertising sexual services
However, nudity is not automatically prohibited.
We may allow nudity or sexual subject matter when the context is clearly:
- Artistic
- Medical
- Educational
- Historical
- Documentary
- Newsworthy
- Related to childbirth or breastfeeding
- Protest or political expression
- Intended to raise awareness
For example, nudity in a classical painting, album artwork with legitimate artistic context, documentation of a protest, or medical educational content may be allowed even where sexually explicit material would not be.
We may still limit the visibility of sensitive content even when it is permitted.
Authenticity and Platform Integrity
12. Spam
Don't spam people or manipulate Niche.
We don't allow:
- Mass unsolicited messages
- Repeated identical or near-identical posts
- Excessive promotional comments unrelated to the conversation
- Automated engagement
- Follow/unfollow manipulation
- Bot networks
- Fake engagement
- Artificial streaming
- Stream farming
- Like or follower manipulation
- Creating large numbers of accounts to evade limits or manipulate metrics
- Misleading links intended primarily to generate clicks
- Repeatedly posting content for the sole purpose of disrupting feeds or conversations
Normal promotion is allowed.
An artist sharing their new song is not spam simply because they're promoting themselves.
13. Fake Accounts and Impersonation
You may use stage names, pseudonyms, fictional identities, or parody accounts.
You may not impersonate another person or organization in a way that is reasonably likely to deceive people about who you are.
This includes impersonating:
- Artists
- Niche Music staff
- Labels
- Companies
- Public figures
- Other users
Fan and parody accounts should make it reasonably clear that they are not the official person or organization.
14. Fraud, Scams, and Deceptive Practices
Do not use Niche to steal from, defraud, or deliberately deceive people.
We prohibit things such as:
- Phishing
- Investment scams
- Fake giveaways
- Advance-fee scams
- Fraudulent ticket or merchandise sales
- Romance scams
- Identity theft
- Account theft
- Payment fraud
- Fake job or business opportunities
- Deceptive schemes designed to obtain passwords, money, financial information, or other sensitive information
- Knowingly promoting fraudulent services
We may remove deceptive accounts even before a scam succeeds.
15. Misinformation and Manipulated Content
Niche is not going to decide which side of every argument is "correct."
People are allowed to:
- Be wrong
- Express opinions
- Debate controversial topics
- Make predictions
- Post satire
- Share parody
- Criticize institutions
- Discuss disputed claims
However, we may remove or restrict false or manipulated content where the deception creates a meaningful risk of harm.
Examples include:
- Dangerous false information intended to cause physical harm
- Fraudulent claims used to obtain money or personal information
- False information used to impersonate another person
- Fabricated emergency information likely to cause immediate harm
- Manipulated media falsely presented as authentic where the deception creates a serious risk
- Coordinated deceptive campaigns designed to manipulate Niche users
Satire, parody, fictional content, and clearly labeled synthetic media are generally treated differently from deliberate deception.
16. Account and Metric Manipulation
You may not manipulate Niche's systems to create a false impression of popularity or activity.
This includes artificially increasing:
- Streams
- Likes
- Saves
- Followers
- Comments
- Shares
- Rankings
- Playlist placement
- Recommendations
- Other engagement metrics
We may remove artificial activity from statistics and take action against accounts involved in manipulation.
This is particularly important if Niche introduces artist payments, charts, rewards, or other programs based on engagement.
Illegal and Dangerous Activity
17. Criminal Activity
Do not use Niche to coordinate or facilitate serious criminal activity.
We may remove content that meaningfully assists activities such as:
- Human trafficking
- Sexual exploitation
- Violent crime
- Theft
- Fraud
- Extortion
- Kidnapping
- Serious cybercrime
Discussion, reporting, fictional depictions, journalism, harm-reduction discussions, historical material, or condemnation of criminal activity may be allowed.
18. Dangerous Organizations and Extremism
We may remove accounts or content that meaningfully represents, recruits for, supports, or facilitates organizations involved in terrorism or organized violent extremism.
Discussion about these organizations for news, academic, documentary, historical, or critical purposes may be allowed.
19. Dangerous Goods and Transactions
Niche should not be used as a marketplace for illegal or heavily regulated goods.
We may remove content facilitating unlawful sales or transfers of things such as:
- Illegal drugs
- Weapons
- Stolen property
- Counterfeit goods
- Fraudulent documents
- Other prohibited goods or services
Educational discussion or artistic references to these subjects are not automatically violations.
Ownership and Intellectual Property
20. Copyright
Only upload or share material that you have the right to use.
You may not use Niche to knowingly distribute material that infringes another person's copyright.
This can include:
- Music
- Sound recordings
- Beats
- Samples
- Artwork
- Photography
- Videos
- Writing
- Software
- Other copyrighted works
Some uses of copyrighted material may be legally permitted, such as fair use or other exceptions under applicable law. We consider context and valid legal rights when reviewing disputes.
Rights holders may contact Niche to request removal of infringing material.
Repeated infringement may result in account restrictions or termination.
21. Trademarks and Other Property Rights
Do not use another person's trademarks, logos, branding, likeness, or other protected property in a way that unlawfully infringes their rights or falsely suggests affiliation.
Not every reference to a brand or artist is infringement.
Criticism, commentary, fan content, parody, news reporting, comparison, and other lawful uses may be permitted.
We may remove usernames or accounts that impersonate brands or deliberately misuse trademarks to deceive users.
22. Stolen or Unauthorized Content
Do not falsely present someone else's work as your own.
This includes knowingly:
- Reuploading another artist's music while claiming to own it
- Claiming someone else's artwork as yours
- Creating fake artist profiles
- Uploading unreleased or leaked music without permission
- Distributing private or stolen files
Artificial Intelligence and Synthetic Content
23. AI-Generated and AI-Assisted Content
Niche Music allows some uses of artificial intelligence, but you must be transparent when AI is used to generate or substantially alter content.
If content was generated or materially created using generative AI, it must be clearly labeled or disclosed in a way that an ordinary user can understand.
This includes things such as:
- AI-generated images
- AI-generated videos
- AI-generated voices
- AI-generated writing
- AI-generated characters or people
- AI-generated or substantially AI-altered photography
- Synthetic or manipulated media intended to appear real
Simply hiding the disclosure in tags, metadata, or another place users are unlikely to see does not count as clear labeling.
If generative AI was used and you fail to disclose it, Niche Music may remove or restrict the content.
Repeated or deliberate failure to disclose AI-generated content may result in additional account restrictions.
24. AI-Generated Music
AI-generated music is not allowed on Niche Music.
You may not upload, release, distribute, or present music generated by AI song-generation systems as a Niche Track or other music release.
This includes songs where generative AI creates some or all of the:
- Instrumental
- Vocals
- Melody
- Lyrics as performed or incorporated into an automatically generated song
- Arrangement
- Finished recording
Using AI tools as part of normal audio production does not automatically make a song AI-generated.
For example, tools used for:
- Stem separation
- Noise removal
- Audio restoration
- Mastering assistance
- Pitch correction
- Mixing assistance
- Audio cleanup
- Track separation in software such as FL Studio
are generally allowed when the underlying music itself was created by people.
The distinction is whether AI is being used as a production tool or as the system that actually generates the musical work or performance.
If we reasonably believe a submitted track is AI-generated, we may remove it or ask the uploader for additional information about how it was created.
25. AI-Generated Sexual or Nude Content
AI-generated nudity, pornography, or sexual content is strictly prohibited on Niche Music.
This includes:
- AI-generated nude images
- AI-generated pornography
- Synthetic sexual imagery
- AI-generated sexual videos
- Sexual deepfakes
- Images generated or edited to make a real person appear nude or sexually exposed
- AI-generated sexual depictions of fictional people
- AI-generated fetish or sexually explicit content
This rule applies even if the depicted person is fictional, does not exist, or supposedly consented.
The artistic, educational, historical, protest, documentary, or similar exceptions that may apply to some real-world nudity do not apply to AI-generated nudity or pornography.
For purposes of these Community Guidelines, Niche Music does not treat AI-generated material as art for the purpose of receiving artistic-content exceptions.
26. AI Depictions of Minors
AI-generated sexual or exploitative depictions of minors are strictly prohibited.
This includes realistic, stylized, fictional, manipulated, or fully synthetic depictions.
Content involving the sexual exploitation or sexualization of minors may result in immediate permanent account removal and may be reported to appropriate authorities when required by law.
27. AI Impersonation and Deceptive Media
You may not use AI to intentionally deceive people about the identity, actions, statements, or endorsement of another person.
We may remove content such as:
- Fake artist announcements presented as real
- AI-generated audio impersonating another person without disclosure
- Fake interviews or statements
- Synthetic endorsements
- Deepfakes intended to mislead users
- AI-generated media used for scams, harassment, fraud, or reputational harm
Clearly labeled parody, satire, or fictional content may be allowed as long as it does not violate another rule.
Using a label does not make otherwise prohibited content acceptable.
For example, clearly labeling AI-generated pornography as AI-generated does not make it permitted.
28. AI Labels Do Not Override Other Rules
Disclosure is a requirement, not an exception to the rest of these Guidelines.
AI-generated content must still follow every other Niche Music rule.
Content may still be removed even when properly labeled if it involves things such as:
- Harassment
- Hate speech
- Fraud
- Impersonation
- Copyright infringement
- Graphic violence
- Sexual content prohibited under these Guidelines
- Exploitation
- Dangerous misinformation
- Child safety violations
Niche Music may add built-in labels, warnings, metadata, or other indicators to content we believe was generated or substantially altered using AI.
Security
29. Malicious Software and Cyber Abuse
Do not use Niche to attack users, Niche Music, or other systems.
We prohibit:
- Malware
- Viruses
- Credential-stealing software
- Malicious links
- Phishing pages
- Unauthorized attempts to access accounts
- Exploitation of security vulnerabilities for harmful purposes
- Distributed denial-of-service attacks
- Attempts to bypass Niche security systems
If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to us instead of exploiting it.
Enforcement
30. What Happens When Something Breaks the Rules
Not every violation receives the same response.
Depending on the content, context, severity, history, and risk involved, Niche may:
- Remove content
- Reduce its visibility
- Add a warning
- Limit recommendations
- Restrict certain features
- Temporarily suspend an account
- Permanently disable an account
- Remove an artist's music
- Remove artificial engagement or streams
- Prevent the creation of replacement accounts
- Preserve information when legally required
- Report activity to appropriate authorities where required or reasonably necessary
Severe violations may result in immediate permanent removal without a prior warning.
Examples include child sexual exploitation, credible threats of serious violence, serious fraud, or use of Niche to facilitate major criminal activity.
31. Attempts to Evade Enforcement
Do not deliberately evade enforcement actions.
This includes creating or using additional accounts to continue activity that resulted in an account suspension or ban.
Accounts created primarily to evade enforcement may also be restricted or removed.
32. Context Matters
Moderation is not always as simple as identifying a particular image or word.
When appropriate, we may consider:
- Why something was posted
- Who is being targeted
- Whether the content is fictional or real
- Whether it documents or encourages harmful behavior
- Artistic context
- Newsworthiness
- Educational value
- Historical context
- Satire and parody
- Public-interest value
- The severity of possible harm
For example:
Generally allowed: a documentary showing the aftermath of war to explain what occurred.
Potentially restricted: graphic footage of an injured person posted without meaningful context.
Not allowed: graphic footage posted specifically to celebrate the victim's suffering or threaten others.
Similarly:
Generally allowed: nudity appearing in artwork or documentation of a protest.
Not allowed: explicit pornography uploaded primarily for sexual gratification.
Contextual exceptions never permit child sexual abuse material.
33. Reports and Appeals
If you see something that violates these Guidelines, you can report it through Niche's available reporting tools.
Where available, users may also be able to appeal moderation decisions.
Submitting large numbers of knowingly false reports to harass another user may itself violate these Guidelines.
34. Emergencies
Niche is not an emergency service.
If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact appropriate emergency services rather than relying only on a report to Niche.
35. Changes to These Guidelines
Niche Music will continue to change as the community grows.
We may update these Community Guidelines to address:
- New features
- New types of abuse
- Safety concerns
- Legal requirements
- Moderation experience
- Changes to how Niche works
When we update these Guidelines, we will update the version and effective date shown at the top.
36. Relationship to Other Niche Policies
These Community Guidelines work alongside our:
- Terms of Service
- Privacy Policy
- End User License Agreement
- Artist Agreement
The Terms of Service govern your overall use of Niche.
These Guidelines specifically explain the types of content and behavior that are allowed on the platform.
